If you’re looking for a quick bit of meat to quick, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised with Jim Beam‘s offering of their Applewood Smoked Pork Loin.
At £2 for two pork steaks in Morrisons, we stocked up on food supplies once the shops opened on Boxing Day while we were en route to North Devon from Liskeard in Cornwall in the camper. However, my parents called us to say they would be able come the day after to help install our new kitchen, so the moment we returned, we got on to cooking these bad boys.
They’re so blooming quick to cook and no messing about; exactly what you need if you are going to be cooking on a wet, cold outdoors adventure. And better still, perfect if you’re too busy to cook a full on joint at home. It’s versatile enough to either marinade in advance and light the barbie or add it half way through frying your meat with oil in a large mess tin or pan. If you’re like us and cook your meat a specific way, you won’t give two hoots about the instructions on the back of he packet. We just made sure our steaks were cooked to perfection and added the sauce at the end and fried off. It’s less risk of uncooked meat if you ask me. They do resemble 4-slice-thick wedge of bacon and quite thin for typical pork loins so allow two per person, but we weren’t disappointed in the slightest and didn’t find it over priced for convenience either.
I would definitely buy the sauce separately in the future if I saw it on our UK supermarket shelves. Its sweet delicious bourbon whiskey caramelises beautifully in the pan and you’ll find yourself enjoying the toffee-like edges of your pan. My only concern is that I can see someone splitting the sachet as it’s a bit of a devil getting it out of vacuum packed packaging.
A great Christmas bargain find in Morrisons!
