We all know home made syn free curries do take time, but what about the times you just can’t do it? You’ve been rushed off your feet and as a last resort, you’re thinking of reaching for the takeaway leaflets in your emergency drawer. We’ve done this so many times, but I’ve learnt with a bit of planning ahead like last week’s Slow Cooker Syn Free Bhuna recipe, I can avoid is most of the time.
And today I’ve been to get my hair done, had to run a load of errands and so grabbed my back up Iceland Spicy Tikka Masala sauce from the freezer to cook with chicken and rice. Quicker than waiting for a takeaway delivery for sure. But what was it like and did it get my hardest critic, the fiance’s approval?
Before we get in to the taste, Iceland sell them in the freezer section for £1.50. My ideal price I pay for things like this is a pound; I’m stingy, but for a syn free tub of convenience, I think it’s appropriately priced for a little help in the kitchen. What I didn’t realise is that it’s not necessary to defrost before cooking; you can just pop it in the microwave which is even better. That’ll teach me for not reading, eh?
It also has onions and peppers in it, but I still felt the need to bulk it up with some sliced mushroom and onions to go with my chicken cooked in frylight.
When it comes to flavour, it didn’t stand out from the crowd but it didn’t taste too healthy either considering it was guilt free. I really wanted a bit more zest and intense flavours like coriander, so it may be worth picking some up too when you’re shopping. It was also hotter than we anticipated with a slight drying bitter taste but I did wolf it down much quicker than the other half, but to keep him sweet, an offering of poppadoms with mango chutney went down very well Disclaimer: these are obviously not syn free.
We also ate with home made syn free egg fried rice.
