As we start on a new week, I thought I would reflect on my previous week of my efforts of practicing healthy living. I have been really enjoying putting goodness in to my body and reaping the rewards.
I have been mostly spending time in my almost complete conservatory with a newly set up air-con system – it’s been 2 degrees outside most mornings, yet have been enjoying a Summer-like charade. It can fool me all I like – I will let it. I have been able to wear my new summery clothes with sandals from my recent haul last Friday. If anything, it is helping me plan for my favourite season ahead and anticipate any goals I want to achieve.
I have had absolutely no desire to roam around any other room in the house; so much so in fact I have my computer set up in there.
As I have said previously, it’s amazing how such a little bit of sun can give you inspiration. Creative juices flows and I cannot stop planning Summer-themed recipes in my head. It’s just frustrating when I work full time and oh so badly want to film my recipes for my YouTube channel but unfortunately for now the non-soup ones are strictly in written format. If you are like me, I am more of a visual person, but I do love to write.
So I started last Sunday drinking plentiful amounts of caffeine free Teapigs winter-themed teas and Clipper zesty ones, incorporating dairy free milks, such as Alpro Almond and Soya. Although slightly sweet, I have really enjoyed them and missed cow’s milk very little. I usually rely on coffees and teas, but if I am making an effort to hydrate, I want to keep what I in take and flush out any badness in my body. I have also been experimenting with dried whole foods, soaking legumes overnight and creating bean mashes or broth-style mixes soups. These, admittedly kept me more regular than usual and have craved less sweets and larger meals on an evening. I knew I would weigh my heaviest on Monday after indulging in half an XXL Papa Johns pizza Saturday night, so have been focused on drawing a line in the weekend’s treats. And on Friday, I had lost an amazing 2lb. I am now currently almost at the exact weight as I was before Christmas.
Each morning I have participated in a yoga session on Youtube, continuing a mirco-session I started last week hosted by Erin Motz. I also wanted to sample a longer stress relieving challenge with a full yoga flow so committed to one by Yoga with Adriene. I have really felt toning on my core, particularly across the front of my ribs. It has helped set me up for the day, made me feel more confident and released happy endorphins. Yoga is a great start to any exercise in your life, whatever age and size. I would like to master the downward facing dog but still need to get plenty of practice in before I my feet can finally touch the floor – I will cheer when the day will come. However, for now I have to use my yoga block for an aid – I am not very flexible at all but have felt improvement in the last few months.
I have also been reaching my 10,000 steps goal while wearing my fitbit flex and logged almost all of my foods on to myfitnesspal.
By the time Saturday came along, I popped along to a local charity sale and found a few amazing thrift purchases to help me. These were two cool large Starbucks mugs – one for him and her in red and white for 20p each. I love Starbucks but no longer work in a town centre so am saving on my daily morning fix and now always make one at home in the morning. Unfortunately at present I cannot function without one in the morning.
I also found a really cool teapot infuser – hopefully I won’t break this one but after bleaching them all, I tried my first ever We Are Tea vanilla flavoured black loose tea (using my new mugs) and we were both pleasantly surprised.
I did venture to the homemade cake stall and bought £5 worth of charity muffins (raspberry & yoghurt, double chocolate muffins, mince pies and a delicious dense banana monkey bread. I feel less guilty as they are for a worthy cause and after having to try one of each between us, I have frozen the rest so can sensibly portion them.
I look forward to another new start this week and will be repeating my yoga efforts again from tomorrow.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of my lovely readers x
