In the year of 2009, Joules launched their Harrogate store on James Street next door to the shop I used to manage. Harrogate is full of inspirational fashion shops and boutique in an easy-shopping town, unlike any city. Every lunch break, or before and after work, I would stare through their window, eyeing up all of their pretty floral dresses and stripey tees with gilet combo. It was a merchandisers dream to be able to work with and sell such loveable styles. However, come Winter time, it was very Country tweed with autumnal colours which doesn’t suit me, unless I inject colour.
The photo to the left was actually taken in Cornwall 2009 and my first purchases. You had to grab things quick if you loved them as they were flying out. I know the scarf doesn’t neccessarily doesn’t go, but I loved clashing prints at the time.
And today I’m doing my first fashion post because it’s something I know so much about, but tend to hold back in my blog and YouTube video; I’m not in my 20s anymore as I was in this pic, although I know age shouldn’t hold anyone back and the other being I can’t go spending like I used to on clothes as I’m saving to to pay for our first house and wedding. However, I’ve dressed hundreds, if not thousands of customers and ladies for Fashion Shows of all shapes/sizes and you soon learn what looks right and wrong with a lot of flattering tricks along the way.
The most common issues I would face when finding outfits for someone was: “I don’t want to show my arms” and “I’m 40, but I don’t want to dress like I’m 40″ and I don’t doubt you’ve heard them before either.
My body shape is straight with gentle curves but not quite an hour glass and I am a Winter tone with my dark brown hair and eyes, so I’m going to show you a few key outfits that are on my Wish-List if it helps. Sadly, there’s no way I will be buying them as my priorities won’t change any time soon but of course, if you have a fashion dilemma, I am happy to help if you comment below and I can do a little Personal Shopping in terms of colour and style.
Cutting it short, if you’re Nicole Kidman, you would suit Spring tones, me (above) a Winter person, Jennifer Lopez is Autumn (warm) and the Queen is a typical Summer. I will explain colour in another post if you wish as this a whole other topic, but there are exceptions to the rule. But essentially, if you get your colour right, you will look healthy and the best you can = confidence and compliments.
So here’s a few styles on my wish list for my weekend working wardrobe, where I could mix and match to get full use and dress up and down while I’m away. Most styles are likely to be in Sale at present too as most stores’ Winter range will be creeping their way in slowly as of next month.
1. The Joules Nautical Navy & White Dress £29.99
This is the key and timeless style that can be dressed casually with flats or heels for a smarter occasion. Nautical themes suit almost anyone and play with any 3rd bold colour, ideally with blue hues, such as red, hot pinks and oranges. Perfect to mix and match and wear alongside bold chunky jewellery.
2. Hobbs Ballerina Red Suede Boating Flats £55
I have had any of Hobbs leather flats for a fun injection of colour. Most are made of leather and you can rest assured you will be buying comfort and quality that lasts a few seasons ahead, for any age Hobbs were originally a shoe making company, although later expanded to clothing.
3. The Joules clean-look French Navy Waterproof Mac £58.30
I love Joules practical macs, although have never purchased, but admired from afar. They always speak fun adventures to me while in-keeping with feminine style. There are so many boring macs out there leaving you feel unsexy and believe me, I’ve had a few due to price, which is why this is high on my wish list. I am always away camping and hiking, rain, shine and even snow. Nothing will stop me from exploring.
4. Joules Navy Floral Wellies £31.96
I’m currently on my 2nd pair of Hunters wellies and that is only because I had to exchange my first pair as they were splitting at the seams. My second ones have done the same and I now want something more upbeat for my gardening that will still tea with my wardrobe.
5. Hobbs Red & Iviory Scoop Neck Top £35
This works beautifully back to back with the mac and wellies and a perfect match with white jeans for a cleaner look. Do not be tempted to wear with blue if you want to look your best. Blue will work, but will give it a flatter edge.
6. Joules White Jeans £49.99
Although not practical with pets and children, I will always have a place in my heart for white and red jeans. They give a fresh, clean and upbeat look on holiday and even more perfect with red or white flats for a balance (white jeans, red flats or the other way around. However, white can be difficult to get right if too thin which can show cellulite, so make sure you invest in a thick cotton, maybe with 2 or less elastane or a not too tight on the bum linen.
All these styles work with existing plain red, white or blue you may have in your wardrobe and start raiding your accessories collection!
