Tonight I lost my dinner to the floor. It was going to be a naughtier pizza I picked up in Asda cheap as I had skipped breakfast to queue early in EE for my free Power Bar. After running some other errands, it wasn’t until lunchtime until I got home.
But being out and about, strawberries seemed to be reduced everywhere and luckily I found British strawberry punnets today at 50p each to add to my fridge collection (which must be eaten quick). I never buy them full price as they’re not essential to me, so when I see them cheap, I nab them, like other berries as an evening treat, sometimes breakfast. I currently no have enough in my fridge for a Jam making sesh, but I’m going to resist and embrace them in smoothie-fashion since I’ve had no treats at all today and the heat has stolen my appetite.
This smoothie recipe was taken from the bbc good food website, but I omitted the ground almonds as it was my supper and used frozen bananas instead which I had left over from my one-ingredient Banana Ice Cream video which perfectly turned this in to an ice cold luscious thick strawberry shake on a warm evening. Note it’s an icy cold throat tickler!
In fact, the next time I see bananas cheap yet again which I stupidly ignored in Adsa today, I won’t be walking past, that’s for sure. Just by peeling them, throwing them in the freezer, they’re tough little things that keep goodness for what I can imagine could be weeks. It’s ideal to grab one when you fancy a smoothie or ice cream, especially if you’re less keen on them raw.
In fact, I’m thinking I should freeze all of my berries every time I see them on offer. There you go, sorted.
Strawberry Thick Shake – Serves 2
2 frozen bananas, chopped
16 fresh strawberries
1 cup of skimmed milk
Blend together until everything is smooth. You may need to tilt your blender if you have a basic one like mine.
Let me know what you though of it. I thought it was beautifully simple, sweet and loved the freshness, although my fiance thought it was a little tart but we do have slightly different taste buds when it comes to fruity and citrusy flavours.
Roll on strawberry healthy tomorrow! With my morning porridge, perhaps?
