If I’m stuck for gift ideas whatever the season or short of time, then I’ve always found a luxurious treat from Hotel Chocolat never disappoints. They really do hold their own offering exquisite quality over quantity and what also beats the rest is that their great packaging looks gift wrapped already.
I used to manage a clothes shop next door to their Harrogate branch (very handy after stressful day, including their Prosecco) and what with unsociable Christmas hours, Hotel Chocolat never let me down when I wanted to put a smile on someone’s face in a hurry. I’m mostly fond of their Chocolat Slabs, so much so, I created a YouTube tutorial at Christmas to create a similar style at home but since tempering chocolate is rather precise, my version certainly isn’t quite to this standard!
And as the seasons come and go, I would always find something new, fun and different; (I once treated my fiance to an Easter bunny chocolate basket with egg and soldier dippers). And if you get the chance to taste them, they really do hit the high notes if you want to indulge. So when I was offered to sample one of their Valentine’s Day themed box of chocolates, I couldn’t not say no. How could I? And what is more, I was given the opportunity to treat another vlogger. Side Note: Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. My Finnish housemate was disgusted it singles people out, so I will always remember that in Finland, it’s Friendship Day. And with that in mind, I asked it to be sent to another lady health vlogger who I felt needed the pick me up more than most due to family troubles. (As it’s meant to be a surprise, I won’t say who yet until I hear anything). But to be put in a position to offer goodwill at Hotel Chocolat’s expense, I thought it was an incredibly sweet gesture. After all, it is the thought that counts!
And although the box is suggests to be a gift for her, there is also an extensive range of hampers for both. I rarely get the pleasure of pondering over one of their many delights in a store now I work from home, but don’t panic, they do deliver too if you fancy trying.
What sold me on the Hearts & Truffles box I picked was the Salted Caramel ganache filled ones. It was Hotel Chocolat that introduced me to the this combination a few years ago with chocolate puddles that I took home to share as a one-off treat. And with a box of 19 treats here, no, they’re certainly not two a penny in either of the sense, but if you want to experience the many depths of sumptuous chocolate, they are incredibly smooth, yet intensely delicious. The box has allowed me to experience a few new flavours that I wouldn’t necessarily have picked up and the champagne truffles are also to die for! Note to self: Must get back to exercising tomorrow. But when receiving a chocolate gift, I’d much rather opt for small package that pleases than a lot of mediocre impeding on my waistline. I also love the touch of quirkiness this set has with its trio egg-yolk effect carrot cake number (or can see you something else here?), and many of the many fruity flavours such as the Raspberry Smoothie.
Once we’ve finished the box (I’m sharing with my fiance because I’m nice), I’m going to find it pretty difficult to part with the round box too. It’s so sturdy and cute with a white grosgrain bow (it never grows old being pleased I know this fabric), I think it deserves to be used for keepsakes or beauty knickknacks.
But ultimately, I don’t think this will disappoint anyone and we will be savoring what is left slowly until the day comes. Let me know if you do get one this Sunday and I hope it puts a smile on your face too!
Happy Friendship Day!
