My new OXO Good Grips Garlic Press takes no prisoners. It’s so robust and heavy, it almost feels like a kitchen weapon. Sadly my Progressive No-Peel Needed one I picked up in TK Maxx finally gave way just days before Mother’s Day so when I dog wanted to know what to get me, I whispered in Daddy’s ear.
And when finishing off the fat cloves my old one couldn’t handle, it was as cool as a cucumber. The gridded holes are mush larger for the garlic to push through and it even works perfectly with the skin left on, but I must admit, I prefer taking it off to prevent less waste.
To make it less smelly on the fingers, the handle also goes the opposite way to reject any last remnants (ideal if you’ve pressed with the skin on), but since I remove the skin, I usually just chuck the rest in as breaks up in the cooking process anyhow.
More importantly, when it comes to dishwasher cleaning (my favourite part), it only needs one clean and everything’s gone, unlike my last which I ended up resorting to my grater. Definitely don’t look any further if you need a new one.
