The talk of syns in KFC’s new rice box options is currently spreading like wildfire and took this as a perfect opportunity to tell you like it’s hot off the press! Well, I have to do somethng with my Journalism degree after all.
After doing a bit of research, I didn’t have to travel far on the web to find that at £4.49, people have been disgusted or disappointed that they have received an extremely small portion that looked nothing like the KFC’s advert images. And if you want to make a meal out of it, then it would cost £4.99 to include a drink. At least there’s no tempting fries, unless you’re dining with a friend, wafting them under your nose.
Zinger Rice Box – 11 Syn on EE
So, firstly, we’re starting with the Zinger Ricebox. According to Facebookers, there is talk of this meal being 11 syns on the Slimming World Extra Easy plan, 17 for Red Days and 11 for Green Days. I personally have always followed the Extra Easy plan as it’s less confusing and limiting which has always worked for me.
Then we move on to the Original recipe which is apparently 10.5 syns on EE, 16 if you’re following the Red Day plan and 10.5 for the Green Day plan. As I like a bit of zing, I probably won’t be ordering this one.
BBQ Pulled Chicken Ricebox – 4.5 syns on EE (Discontinued)
And finally the angelic one of them all is the BBQ Pulled Chicken Ricebox at 4.5 syns on Extra Easy, Green Day 4.5 and 12 syns if you’re on the Red Day plan. I have tried their pulled chicken recipe before and really didn’t think it was worth it for the price. I found it tasted rather stewed and wasn’t very filling so won’t be ordering this one, unless I’m indulging in another meal that day.
These seem ideal if you want to stay on plan while your friend or other half insists on having a naughty treat, which is where I generally have my downfalls, so I like to plan my meals in advance to avoid failure. Usually, if I’m offered junk food, I want the naughtier options, so tend to avoid KFC’s deep fried offerings by not entering the door, but it does sting that it appears that the healthier eaters will suffer in terms of good value for money. They don’t look very filling where as a zinger tower box meal which can be hard to resist. Hopefully on our day out tomorrow, I will be trying one and no doubt posting it on instagram!
As I am not a Slimming World consultant, you should always ask them to confirm the syn values, but this is what other members are suggesting.
If you have tried them, please comment below and share your experience. Which is your favourite? Were they delicious? And hopefully it will be only a matter of time for McDonalds to consider offering lower calorie controlled meals on their menus too.
