This is my favourite go-to quick mustard salad dressing. It's delicious, made in 30 seconds, and an easy vegan recipe using plant based double cream.

I haven't updated you in a while about my recent 1 stone weight loss, but I've started a new way of eating.
Firstly, I've cranked up my exercise routine beyond my treadmill desks and free exercise YouTube videos. And that is, a paid commitment to a Beach Body On Demand for better morning exercises.
Soon after, my Beach Body Coach invited me to a private Facebook group, where I learned about 16:8 Intermittent Fasting. It's from here on, I became a bookworm, reading Dr Michael Mosley's Fast 800 diet book and The Blood Sugar Diet book. *Note, both are very similar with different case studies.

Why I'm No Longer Following a "Low Fat" Diet
Since finishing reading these books, I've learned about the many studies that have proved low fat diets don't work long term. So, I've kind of walked away from slimming clubs and eating things like my quick satay sauce dressing on salads and stir-fries.
I've also been thoroughly enjoying many of the Fast 800 recipes. Although it kind of felt weird initially, feeling counterproductive eating more olive oil, coconut oil, etc, full fat dairy, nuts and seeds.
But while combining them with lean protein, healthy vegetables and avoiding starchy carbs in this Mediterranean diet, meals feel much more satisfying. Note: I don't think the H recent ow to Lose a Stone in 21 Days TV show on Channel 4 did this diet justice, to be honest.

For almost all of this year, I've been calorie counting and walking on my treadmill desk.
Initially, I lost 2lb and felt hopeful about my routine. But I kept cutting back, miserably, with more fluctuations. I was actually convinced I had a thyroid problem.
However, I've since learnt that I was like many of Dr Michael's case studies. My body must have got to the point where it was storing carbs as fat.

Anyway, so let's get talking about my new favourite vegan mustard salad dressing. Although, if following a 5:2 diet or a keto diet, you could of course, still use double cream.
How to Make Honey Mustard Dressing Vegan
I love this plant based dressing because, in 30 seconds, it makes a simple salad recipe taste delicious and satisfying. Also, plant based double cream lasts longer in the fridge if you want a varied diet. And you can quickly call it a honey mustard salad dressing with no mayo.
It's also incredibly versatile. Sometimes I make it as a honey mustard dressing recipes, which obviously, is, then no longer a vegan salad dressing. But then I'll also make a vegan honey mustard dressing recipe, using a smidgen Clark's maple and carob syrup.

Is Mustard Vegan?
For my vegan salad dressing, I used a vegan mustard sauce. Please note, I am not vegan, but it was, by chance, that my cheap mustard sauce was vegan.
Is Dijon Mustard Vegan?
I also noticed the same as above when I've made it a Dijon mustard dressing. To be honest, I use whichever is closest in my fridge.
Is Honey Mustard Vegan?
As mentioned earlier, sometimes I do make this as a plant-based honey mustard dressing. But I replace honey with a small fork prong of maple syrup blended with carob syrup. Although, it's too sweet with more.

What Salads does this Vegan Mustard Dressing Go With?
Although I often make this as is or a Vegan creamy honey mustard dressing, I don't always make a vegan salad.
I've found it great for making salads using up leftover Sunday dinner meats. Such as diced gammon, chicken breast, or even smoked salmon. I've even drizzled it on diced beef burgers and, as shown here as a Quorn vegan fish fingers salad recipe, also vegetarian.
But don't forget, it doesn't just make a great vegan dressing recipe, but also a lush vegan dipping sauce or spaghetti sauce.
Could I turn this into a Mustard Vinaigrette?
It's very easy to make this a vegan mustard vinaigrette. I've enjoyed it by reducing the plant based cream and increasing the amount of apple cider vinegar, too.
It's the kind of quick salad dressing that you can easily alter every time you make it. And the olive oil and seasoning really enhance it. I don't have a great time in my schedule while I also do DIY at The Carpenter's Daughter, so this 30 second recipe is perfect for me.
However, I'm not so keen on adding garlic powder. It tastes nice, but it will still give you a pungent breath.

What Other Mustard Could I Use?
- Yellow mustard
- American mustard
- Wholegrain mustard
- Dijon mustard
Is This a Fat Free Honey Mustard Dressing?
As this vegan salad dressing uses olive oil and plant based cream, it is not fat free. Although with it being part of a Mediterranean diet, I now consider this a healthy honey mustard dressing.
But, if you haven't quite gone low carb, high fat, you could mix mustard with vinegar, herbs and water. If you wish it to be slightly thicker, a sprinkle of Xantham gum will help.
Also, if you exclude honey or mustany sugar or carbs in this recipe, it is a good salad dressing for diabetics. Other ideas could be to replace the cream for extra light mayonnaise.
How Do You Make Salad Dressings Tasty and Healthy?
The concept that I've learned in the Fast 800 book is that, adding a touch of oil, herbs and spices for flavours alonng with nuts and seeds makes salads delicious and nutritious.
I now know it's far more sustainable to eat this way while limiting carbs than going completely fat free. I've been eating salads or stir fries for 2 months and I'm way more satisfied.
On another note, I've also learnt that cutting carbs reduced my appetite in general. And my body has been dipping in to the fat stored away for energy rather than carbs instantly when I eat them. And that old fat reserves are left untouched.
