Do you wonder to what extent your kitchen gadgets can create? I often question what else my Morphy Richards Soup Maker can do, besides the obvious.
I've tried various things in it and now know it doesn't make smoothies very well. Bummer on that one as I don't really have the space for the blender I then had to buy.
Well, I've pondered on this more so with my Philips Airfryer and soon plan to do many tests on film for my YouTube channel. I know you can make cakes, cook onion rings, chicken nuggets etc. Not just chips which is what I use it for, 95% of the time.
And yesterday I was curious yet again. Annoyingly while I knew I had to get some serious work done in my office. I'm never available on a Monday, let's put it that way.
So, I airfried a few things. Carrot chips (yum yum!), Mooli chips (disgusting) and frozen banana chunks (hell yeah). I was on to something with the latter.
I'm not a fan of raw bananas normally, unless times are desperate. The smell is just too pungent. I much prefer freezing them to make a natural ice cream, smoothie and now air fried Chocolate Cake Dogs, as I'm calling them.
Perhaps they will be a new trend! I call them dogs as they're like mini cocktail sausage shapes but that's how I originally prepared them to be frozen after seeing a huge bag full, reduced to £1.
Once air fryed, this is what they will resemble. They're like firmer toasted slightly rubbery chewy marshmallow and more natural without deep frying them in oil!
You may also have luck in an oven but haven't tried cooking them that way yet.
So the method is simple:
- Pop a few chunks in your airfryer at 200 degrees and spray with frylight or any other low calorie cooking oil spray. Set the timer for 15 minutes, shaking half way through. You may need a spoon to release them from the bottom.
- Then once they're cooking, use a wooden skewers or cocktail stick to pick up each one, (it will slide a bit but don't worry), and dip in melted chocolate (natural unsweetened if wanting gluten free), then if desired, roll in nuts or sprinkles.
- Then lay them on a lined dish with baking paper (stick facing upwards) and placed in the fridge to set for at least 2 hours or freezer for 30 minutes until set. The hardened chocolate will keep the sticks in place.
Let me know what you think of my experiment and hopefully this will be a new party favourite or a perfect snack while watching a good film. I did notice when left overnight, they did show a sweet banana sap but the taste of this wins hands down compared to a fresh banana.
I just like them as they're natural and far less naughty than eating a cookie or muffin!
