There's just something about tucking into flaky, buttery, warm croissants with a hot brew first thing in the morning. Especially when it's French pastry.
I usually eat mine with butter and a spread of almond or peanut butter. My husband, however, loves to eat his with chocolate hazelnut spread and a dusting of icing sugar.
And they are so easy to make along with my other breakfast recipes! Here I'll show you how to prep and cook a can of crescent rolls, but also ideas on how you can easily customise them!

Canned croissants - this is canned crescent roll dough in a part cardboard and metal end tube. These can be found in grocery store refrigerators. I used Jus-Rol, but you could use Pillsbury Crescent Rolls instead
Cooking spray - this is for spraying the air fryer basket without the need for parchment paper and allows the bottom of the crescent dough to cook too
Egg - whisked in a small bowl to create an egg wash to brush on top of the croissants to give them a shiny golden brown colour. Note, I mix the egg white in too, but you could solely use the egg yolk if preferred
📋 Instructions
First, preheat your air fryer to 170c or 375 degrees F.

1. Open the refrigerated crescent rolls container, then unroll it on a clean kitchen worktop.
Then score along every perforated line you see until you have large triangles.

2. Starting from the shortest side, start rolling the croissant pastry until you reach the pointy edge.
For mini croissants: you could slice starting at the corner opposite the wider side.

3. Now curve the ends until you have a crescent shape.

4. Brush the egg wash (or milk or melted butter) on top.

5. Next, spray your air fryer basket with cooking oil spray.

6. Then place a single layer of crescents, spaced apart in the preheated air fryer.
Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook them in batches.
Tip: space your croissants apart to give them enough room as they will grow!

👩🍳 Substitutions
Depending on your dietary needs, here are a few simple swaps you can make:
- Canned croissants - you can swap for frozen croissants, but you would need to adjust your air fryer temperature accordingly
- Oil spray - you could brush oil on the basket instead, or line it with perforated baking paper for circulation
- Egg - instead of brushing your uncooked croissants with an egg wash, you could brush them with melted butter or milk
⚖️ Variations
Here are a different ways you can enhance the main ingredients and truly personalise your flaky air fryer croissants:
- Air fryer chocolate croissants - for easy chocolate croissants, spread rich Nutella before rolling
- Pan au chocolat - before rolling the crescent rolls, sprinkle them with chocolate chips for a delicious dessert
- Air fryer creme egg croissants - for a gooey chocolatey centre, roll around Cadbury's creme eggs for an Easter treat
- Cheese croissant - if you don't fancy sweet treats, eat them savory by rolling your crescents around mozzarella sticks!
- Mini croissants - slice your triangular crescents in half and roll each one into a mini croissant shape to feed little ones, you're following a low calorie diet or want to serve air fryer appetizers at a party

❄️ Storage
Storing - we prefer eating croissants slightly cooled after baking so that they are easy to handle. However, if you have leftover croissants, they can be stored in an airtight container or plastic wrap and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
Freezing - cool to room temperature and again, store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
Reheating - If you want to eat the next day, defrost in the fridge if required and air fry again for an additional 1-2 minutes.
💡Pro Tips
- Preheat your air fryer for the best results
- Leave enough space when baking so that the hot air can circulate for an evenly baked croissant and it avoids them from sticking together
- Spray the air fryer rack with oil spray to prevent them from sticking
- Brush the raw croissants with an egg wash, melted butter, or milk for a lovely golden colour
- If you haven't preheated your air fryer oven, then you'll need to increase the cooking time
🍽️ Serving Suggestions
Jam - why not serve with Queen's jam and lashings of butter?
Smoothie - instead of a cup of tea or coffee, enjoy them with a raspberry and mint smoothie.
Iced coffee - another drink that pairs great with croissants is a homemade frappucino.
Bread and butter pudding -

❓ FAQ
I've experimented a lot with croissants in an air fryer and we found 8-10 minutes was the sweet spot. Some suggest 3-5 minutes, but we found they were raw in the middle.
The best thing you can do is test in your own air fryer and cook longer if needed.
