35. Creamy Parsnip Soup
Asides from fresh parsnips, there are also hidden cannellini beans, potato, celery, onions and garlic.

🍲Which Soup Maker Will these Recipes Fit?
Please note that as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases made through affiliate links.
All of these soup maker recipes were developed in a 1.6L Morphy Richards soup maker and will also work with the Tower, Salter, Ninja soup maker, provided they have a 1.6L capacity or larger.
However, if you are working with smaller soup makers, you'll have to reduce quantities by the following, and add your chicken or vegetable stock last to make sure you don't go over the line, otherwise, the sensor may be activated, causing an error and stops the cooking circle.
- 1L - reduce all ingredients roughly by ⅓
- 1.2L - reduce all ingredients roughly by 10%
❓ FAQ
Do I need to add cold or hot liquid when adding stock to my soup maker?
I've tried it both ways and it doesn't affect the cooking process at all. The soup maker heats up like a kettle, but slower and takes care of it. But I do recommend adding your stock as a final ingredient in case you go over your machine's millilitre limit.
Do I need a Soup Maker with a Sauté Function?
For years, I made soup in a machine without a saute function. For the best results, I would fry onions, garlic, and some vegetables in a little oil in a separate frying pan to enrich the flavour.
But, if you don't want to, you could always add a pinch of sugar or honey at the end for a super easy recipe.I later purchased a Morphy Richards 1.6L with a sauté function and it really does reduce any washing up.
Also, if you forget to add something to your soup, if you take the lid off, it continues cooking where it left off, unlike with the original model, I would have to press the start button again!
Is a Pressure Cooker Good for Soup?
Cooking all of these soups will absolutely work in a pressure cooker or Instant Pot and take more than half the time to make!
I recommend cooking for 8-10 minutes, then using a stick blender or similar.
Can I Make these Soups in my Slow Cooker?
Yes, but I'm less inclined to as it's a much longer process unless I batch cooking my slow cooker Italian sausage or gammon and cabbage soup.
If making any of the soups above, as a rule of thumb, you'll need to cook them as follows:
- Low = 6-7 hours
- High = 3-4 hours
Can I Make Ice Creams in my Soup Maker?
I've never made ice cream in my soup maker, but apparently, you can in the Ninja soup maker with 3 ingredients as shown here, using heavy whipping cream, frozen fruit and sugar.
Do you put raw food in a soup maker?
Raw or frozen vegetables are perfect in a soup maker. Although I find the latter makes even creamier soups.
As for raw meat, Morphy Richards recommends cooking or frying it first as they say the machine doesn't reach a high enough temperature.
Can you use milk in a soup maker?
Yes, but after hundreds of soup maker recipe testing, I've found you can only use 150ml maximum before the sugars in it start catching at the bottom.
The same goes for passata, tinned baked beans, green lentils, rice and instant mashed potatoes. If it catches, the soup maker may error and won't work until you've cleaned the bottom of it.
💡 Soup Maker Tips
- After each use, I've found it's easier to clean it immediately, rather than trying to clean stubborn and hard food particles. And make sure you don't fully submerge it in water.
- If you have burnt food at the bottom, the easiest way is to add some washing-up powder or a dishwasher tablet with water and leave to soak overnight. The enzymes will turn the burnt food into slime and scrape off like magic. This also applies to non-stick sauté function models.
- Never use a metal scourer to scour the inside as many manufacturers say it can ruin the heating element at the bottom.
- If you have a small kitchen, you may not find enough space on your kitchen counter (as stylish as many are these days). My top tip is to always store the cable inside the pot while stored away to prevent losing it!
